My $0.02 on the Deathly Hallows *With Spoilers* July 27, 2007

Let me just say that I love, love, love the Harry Potter series. I am sad that the whole thing seems to be over but I know I will get to revisit these colorful stories when Mogo gets a little older. This will be required reading as far as I am concerned along with other classics like Little Women, Great Expectations, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy & The Chronicles of Narnia (to name just a few). Mogo will be an avid reader, I just know it. If she isn’t, she might as well be sorted into Slytherin!

If you have not finished the book you may want to stop by after you have lest you stumble upon some bit of information that would ruin the experience for you. If you don’t care in the slightest about Harry & the Gang don’t let the door hit you in the arse on your way out I will wait while you pack your things and go…

Marlee & Meme July 16, 2007

Filed under: Meme, Random — mogosmom @ 12:59 pm

Marlee posed a few questions in the Meme style. So for kicks and also because I have nuthin to talk about right now, here are my answers…

  1. When you buy someone a card do you buy one that says what you feel or what you think the other person wants to hear?
If I have to buy a card for someone I don’t particularly like, I always go funny, if I have to buy a card for someone I like/love, but cannot find the right mushy/inspirational card… I go funny. Although if it is for my MIL… chances are I forgot to send it anyways (Sorry Babe).
  2. When you go to a restaurant do you order the same thing every time or do you try something new?
If I am in a nice foofy restaurant I will experiment but if we are at a Denny’s I am totally a creature of habit Moons over My Hammy Yummmm!
  3. When you go to the store do you take the same path or just head off in the direction you think will have what you are looking for?
I have to start on the aisle to my left and go down every aisle even if I don’t need anything on those aisles.
  4. When you go someplace do you try to park in the same general area each time, or just park in the closest spot you can find? I am all about the Princess parking and I always park as close as I can.
  5. Are you loyal to one radio station or do you flip until you find what you want to listen to?
I’m a flipper and I have a fairly short attention span for music.
  6. Do you get ready the same way every morning?
Mostly, I keep to the same a.m. routine. Not because I am in need of routine, mostly because I am half asleep.
  7. If you can’t find what you are looking for in a store will you ask for help or wander until you find it?
    I always ask for directions.
  8. Do you buy the same products? Such as the same laundry soap and the same shampoo all the time?
I guess I am sort of a brand whore.
  9. When you go and eat in a group of people do you ask for separate checks, get out your calculator to make sure you are only paying your share, or throw more money down than you think was your part and call it good?
I don’t care how we do it but we will have it figured out before we order. I hate it when people go to lunch/dinner as a group and only throw in the amount their item was leaving no room for a tip or for tax.
  10. Since ther kind of needs to be a #10  just for sanity’s sake. My random # 10 is…
I read magazines from back to front rather than from front to back.

Ok so… sort of random I know but, I am a sucker for these sorts of surveys.Hope everyone is having a happy day.

7 Random Things – She tagged me and apparently, I am it. June 18, 2007

Filed under: Meme — mogosmom @ 11:36 am

Mallory in the middle tagged me so here are my 7 random things.

  1. My ring fingers are freakishly crooked. Come to think of it, my pointer fingers are sort of crooked too.

  2. I have a bit of a foot fetish in a completely non-sexual way. I love toes. Ok well, I don’t love ugly toes. In fact, I am partial to women’s toes. I think women and children have pretty feet. Men as a general rule do not. I am not really into the Stinky Hobbit feet – it is ok if a man has ugly feet but I try to steer clear.

  3. I watch “That’s So Raven” on Saturday mornings even if Mogo is over it and playing in her room. I like “Cake TV” and “Hannah Montana” too.

  4. I was once fired from TGI Fridays because I was a horrible waitress. I can still balance plates and glasses though and I do on a fairly regular basis just to hear the oohs and ahhhs.

  5. 7 of my favorite books are:
    - The Mists of Avalon by: Marion Zimmer Bradley (Miss Bradley could write a menu for Denny’s and I would be utterly enthralled. Such a pity she has passed on, RIP.)
    - The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
    - Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (A good Unitarian Universalist Boy)
    - Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by  Neil Gaiman,Terry Pratchett.
    - Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins (Actually anything by Tom Robbins is good)
    -
The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul by Douglas Adams (Again anything by this author but this was my fav.)
    - Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling (I’m just wild about Harry but this was the best book by far from the series – can’t wait to see what she comes up with after Harry & The Gang perish)

  6. Mogo’s name is Morrigan Faye and she was named for a Celtic Battle Goddess – No wonder she is such a sassy pants. She also has a serious Left-hook.

  7. I am a Libra with Libra rising – Yes, it sounds like I ought to be all harmonious and stuff but really I am one seriously un-balanced chick.

If you are reading this, you are tagged so tell us 7 random things about you!

My Love/Hate Relationship with Spring April 2, 2007

Filed under: Meme, Uncategorized — mogosmom @ 5:59 pm

10 Things I just Love, Love about Spring

  1. Cool sunny days (right in the middle – not too hot, not too cold)

  2. Purty spring flowers in bloom, even on the side of the freeway.

  3. The chaparral on the San Diego hills magically turns from dingy brown to vv green with hints of yellow and it is just so purty.

  4. Birdies – I know they have birdies year round but they are somehow louder and sweeter in the spring.

  5. Little girls in Pastel flowery dresses & hats (specifically mine).

  6. Bunnies that cluck and the chocolate eggs they lay. (oh, and Marshmallow Peeps too)

  7. The Earth Day Fair in Balboa Park

  8. Unitarian Universalist Flower Communion (really a v sweet tradition)

  9. The Maypole at Church for the kiddos

  10. My anniversary (4/27)

10 Things I cannot stand about Spring

  1. Sneezes – my allergies are going haywire because of all the purty flowers in bloom

  2. The effects of Easter candy on my four year old, in combination with no nap (vv scary).

  3. Bees (I know they serve their purpose but I hate them and their prickly butts)

  4. Birdies – Damn those birdies are loud and they dive bomb you if you walk by their nests.

  5. Easter egg hunts – No kid is ever satisfied with what they get, they always want an egg someone else found. It is anarchy.

  6. Parents of kids hunting Easter eggs… who ever told these parents that an Easter egg hunt (or life for that matter) is fair, eh?

  7. Pink (or blue, or yellow) stuffed bunnies (or chicks, or chicks inside of eggs) She has enough already – no more stuffed animals – thank you very much.

  8. People who think it is a good idea to give live bunnies (or chicks, or small woodland creatures) as Easter presents.

  9. Spring Cleaning (I don’t much like cleaning no matter the season though)

  10. Having surgery 4 days before my 5th Wedding Anniversary – Grrr.

Movies March 27, 2007

Filed under: Meme — mogosmom @ 10:41 am

1. Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times.

Willy Wonka (the original), Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Witches of Eastwick, Rocky Horror, and Almost every animated Disney film made – way too many to go on.

2. Name a movie that you’ve seen multiple times in the theater.

You know, I don’t really do that. I’ll say Star Wars though because I saw most of them when I was little and then again when they were re-released.

3. Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a movie.

Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine, Christina Ricci, Jack Nicholson, Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, John Travolta, Samuel Jackson, Morgan Freidman, Susan Sarandon (not in any particular order). There are a lot more that I have not listed.

4. Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a movie.

Jackie Chan (I just know what sort of movie I am in for if he is in it), Paris Hilton (is she even considered an actress?), The Olson Twins.

5. Name a movie that you can and do quote from.

Princess Bride “Have fun storming the castle!” Breakfast Club “…Such obscene finger gestures from such a pristine girl” and of course Space Balls & Airplane are also honorable mentions.

6. Name a movie musical that you know all of the lyrics to all of the songs.

Annie

7. Name a movie that you have been known to sing along with.

Rocky Horror Picture Show or any number of Disney movies.

8. Name a movie that you would recommend everyone see.

Harry Potter (all of them), Pay it forward, The 6th Sense, Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction… Sheesh there are a ton.

9. Name a movie that you own.

We own a bazillion – most of which we don’t even watch we just keep them because we might happen to watch one of them “someday.”

10. Name an actor that launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops.

Jim Carrey was actually pretty phenomenal in Truman and .Man on the Moon. Harrison Ford started out as a carpenter building sets – does that count?

11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in? If so, what?

I am sure I did when I was little with my folks but I cannot for the life of me remember what we saw.

12. Ever made out in a movie?

Actually… never have.

13. Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven’t yet gotten around to it.

Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels (I have attempted to watch this movie 10 times at least and I always fall asleep in the first 10 minutes without fail)

14. Ever walked out of a movie?

Dumb & Dumber that was a stupid ass movie.

15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theater.

There are way too many to list. I am a crier what can I say?

16. Popcorn?

Yes, of course – lot’s of butter please & some Red Vines too.

17. How often do you go to the movies (as opposed to renting them or watching them at home)?

Once a month perhaps? Not quite that often, I am afraid. We don’t really rent movies as much as borrow them from Phoebe.

18. What’s the last movie you saw in the theater?

Bridge to Terabithia – VV Good Movie.

19. What’s your favorite/preferred genre of movie?

I love a good movie whether it is Sappy, Artsy, Funny, or Black Humor. I can’t stand slap stick or kung fu movies and Westerns kind of bug me.

20. What’s the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?

Annie – I think. I am sure I saw movies before that but I could not tell you what they were.

21. What movie do you wish you had never seen?

Baseketball and The Forbidden Zone – Those movies are just plain WRONG.

 22. What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed?

I don’t really know about weird… Rocky Horror is pretty weird.

23. What is the scariest movie you’ve seen?

Movies don’t freak me out as much anymore. If it is freaky it is probably something a little too close to the realm of possibility. The Exorcist still sort of gives me the Heebie-jeebies.

24. What is the funniest movie you’ve seen?

I am not sure I could pick just one.
